Bearing to Samrong: The Sukhumvit Line's Best Kept Secret

Bearing BTS used to feel like the edge of the city. Now it's a fully functioning neighborhood with Big C, Macro, and enough street food to eat differently every night for a month. Take Samrong BTS, one more stop down. It's now an interchange station connecting to the Yellow Line, which means your commute options actually expanded in the last two years. A friend of mine rents a 30 sqm one bedroom at Ideo Sukhumvit 115 for 8,500 baht. He works at Asok and his commute is about 35 minutes door to door. That's less than some people spend getting across Thong Lo in traffic.

The tradeoff? These neighborhoods are more Thai residential than expat bubble. If you want craft cocktail bars on your soi, this isn't it. But if you want a gym in your building, a 7 Eleven downstairs, and money left over at the end of the month, Bearing to Samrong delivers.

Wongwian Yai to Talat Phlu: The Silom Line Bargains

Cross the river on the Silom line and rents drop like a stone. Wongwian Yai has become genuinely popular with younger Thai professionals and budget conscious expats, and for good reason. You're two stations from Saphan Taksin and can be at Sala Daeng in under 15 minutes.

Condos like The Key Sathorn Ratchapruek and Ideo Sathorn Wongwian Yai offer studios from 7,000 to 9,000 baht. One bedrooms range from 9,500 to 14,000 baht depending on the floor and furnishing quality. Talat Phlu, one station further, is even cheaper. Studios there dip to 5,000 to 7,000 baht, and the neighborhood has one of the best local markets in Bangkok for cheap, incredible food.

I know a couple who moved from a 12,000 baht studio near On Nut to a spacious one bedroom near Talat Phlu for 10,000 baht. They got a balcony, a bathtub, and a shorter commute to their office near Chong Nonsi. Sometimes moving against the crowd is the smartest play.

Bang Na and Udom Suk: Overlooked and Underpriced

Bang Na BTS sits between On Nut and Bearing, and it somehow stays under the radar. The area around Soi Bearing and Sukhumvit 101 to 105 is packed with relatively new condos that developers built during the 2019 to 2022 boom. Supply exceeds demand here, which means landlords compete for tenants.

At buildings like Ideo Mobi Sukhumvit 81 near On Nut or Aspire Sukhumvit On Nut near Udom Suk, you can find well maintained one bedrooms for 10,000 to 13,000 baht. Some studios at Regent Home Sukhumvit 97/1 near Bang Na go as low as 5,000 baht, though those tend to be older units with basic furnishings.
